Welcome to Joy2Sew’s Celebrate The Boy week of nothing but BOY posts! Woohoo! I’m so excited! I’ve definitely fluffed up Nathan’s summer wardrobe with some bold and fun prints, and have had a blast doing it! Rae and Dana have been a constant source of inspiration for me, and I’m so thankful that they started a yearly sewing series celebration of boy items! Haven’t checked it all out yet? Head over to Rae’s or Dana’s to see their CTB (celebrate the boy) highlights below,….or just check out the CTB flickr pool! Did I mention I have a photostream there of all my sewn items over the last few years??? Just easier to have it all categorized in the same place for me!

And now, without any further adu, I start my own CTB:

My super cute model today is sporting his first new outfit of a simple pant and raglan tee. I cut the pants from a favorite pair N already owns, but pretty much followed THIS easy tutorial by Dana from MADE. She totally rocks the awesome sewing tutorials!!!

The pants are a bold nursery print from Ikea textiles, which I don’t think they carry at this time. I’ve used it a lot in the past to make N some baby items like a carrier cover, a bouncy seat cover, and my recent changing mat, but now it makes it’s bold debut as pants, perfectly lightweight for this summer!

And for the little guy’s shirt, I started by making the Raglan Tee from a pattern by Oliver + S. I picked up this pattern from our stellar new sewing shop here in town! I made N a 24month size (although he’s about 26 months now), as I discovered this pattern runs a little larger than I am used to, or than my little guy is sized. I used white interlock from JoAnns for the sleeves, and upcycled a black t-shirt of Daddys for the main part and the collar (cut on the bias). I saved this idea for the “priceless bar code” from a local cloth diapering store a year ago, and thought this was the perfect shirt to stencil it onto. I used freezer paper to box in my parameters for the design, but I nearly free-handed it all since the design was so intricate.
I am trying to follow Rae’s recent CTB advice to say “YES!” to BOLD prints for the boy. And, I need to add more piping to N’s future mommy-made clothing…I’ve added “make N a pair of summer shorts like THESE!” I must, I must! So cute!!!! Stay tuned in to see what new outfit Nathan will be sporting tomorrow!
